MOOSE

These intimidating giants will be sure to get your heart pounding.
Our  hunting area regularly produces bulls in the 40” - 50” range with a few in the 60” class.

We currently have an exceptionally high moose population with good trophy quality.
But if your are goal is to harvest a younger bull that will yield a freezer full of fine table fare,
we can accommodate you as well.

Our moose hunts had 100% success rate in 2011.

BLACK BEAR

Spring black bear is a fantastic way to jump start your hunting season.
We offer spot and stalk hunts with a two bear limit and a high percentage of color phase bears.

Spring season is April 1st to June 15th of each year.

The fall hunting season runs form August 25th to November 30th.
Any early fall hunts can be upgraded to include a bear hunt.

BISON

These wooly giants can test your resolve and provide a magnificent trophy!
These winter hunts are done in the northern most part of Alberta out of wall tents.
Typically you skidoo several miles a day to find tracks or a herd of Bison
and then make your stalk.

Large caliber rifles are  recommended
as a mature Wood Bison can weigh in excess of 2500 lbs.

WHITETAIL & MULE DEER

Alberta is famous for trophy whitetail and mule deer for good reason,
we consistently produce record book animals.  Enormous bodies, massive antlers, and ideal habitat make Alberta the preferred destination for trophy whitetail and mule deer fanatics.

Our area produces deer in the 140” -  200” class annually.
Mule deer or whitetail can be hunted together, individually or as combination hunt
with any other available species.  We typically target bucks 145” and up.

ELK

Hunting bugling elk in the peak of the rut is an experience you will never forget.

Alberta has a thriving elk population.
You are sure to have some close range elk encounters
with Groat Creek Outfitters.

Hunting can be done on horseback, float trips, tree stands, or calling
depending on the weather and the elk.

WOLVES & COYOTES

Alberta’s wolf and coyote population is also thriving.

The pelt of an Alberta wolf, taken in its winter prime, is a beautiful reminder of a great hunt.

Colors range from typical grey to pure black, white and anything in between.

Wolves with weights in excess of 135 lbs have been harvested.
There is no harvest limit on wolves, but they are subject to CITES regulations.

Alberta also provides world-class coyote hunting opportunities!
Outfitters employ a variety of strategies to present hunters with shot opportunities.
Winter hunts offer the best pelts and some of the finest hunting is experienced
during breeding season in late January and February.
There is no harvest limit on coyotes in Alberta.

Wolf and Coyote
can be hunted in addition
to any of the big game species,
in the fall or spring
or on their own in the winter months.

We employ different methods
including calling or baiting.

HUNT METHODS & CONDITIONS

Being in good physical condition is important.  Some hunts are physically demanding while others require little exertion.
Understand the potential demands and prepare appropriately for your hunt.

Hunting season in Alberta is generally cold, so plan to dress in layers.
If you like to hunt all day, we'll pack you a lunch and see you that night for supper.

Hunting methods vary depending on the area, the weather, the rut activity and of course your preference.
Many hunters prefer thee Heated Blinds, but we also use tree stands, rattling and walking.

TRANSPORTATION

MAJOR AIRPORTS

Most visitors hunting at Groat Creek Outfitters will typically fly into the Edmonton International Airport (YEG)
This airport is located centrally for those hunting in central and northern Alberta. (
www.edmontonairports.com).

TRANSPORTING YOUR GAME & TROPHIES HOME

Exporting your game (i.e. antlers, hide, meat, etc.) from Canada is relatively simple procedure as long as you claim this as personal baggage.
Your hunting license will act as your export permit so keep it with you as you leave Canada.

In the majority of cases you will also need to fill out a U.S. Import Form.
Although this can be picked up at Customs, the process is expedited if this form is filled out in advance.
We will do our best to assist you with any necessary documentation.

Note: Different species have different requirements.

ENTERING INTO CANADA

Visiting hunters must have a up-to-date passport and clear Canada Customs regardless of mode of travel.

You may be asked about the purpose of your trip, the length of your stay, who you are hunting with, etc.

It is wise to carry written verification (e.g. a contract or you outfitter brochure).

All alcohol, tobacco and firearms must be declared.

REASON ENTRY INTO CANADA COULD BE REFUSED

Prior criminal convictions could hinder entry into Canada.  For more details visit the Canada Border Crossing Services website at www.bordercrossing.ca.  Alternatively, you can call 1-800-438-7020 and ask for Lucy Perillo.

If you have any type of criminal conviction (even if you’ve been charged and not convicted),
you should notify your outfitter or call Canada Border Crossing Services well in advance to pre-arrange clearance

IMPORTING FIREARMS

Visiting hunters are allowed to bring rifles and/or shot guns into Canada (some restrictions apply).
Archery equipment does not fall under these requirements.

To comply with Canadian law, a simple one–page form (CAFC 909) must be completed to obtain a temporary Canadian Firearms permit.
This form is available online (http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca), or can be obtained at the border.

A declaration fee is charged for firearms and payable at customs.

Airlines require a declaration that you are checking a firearm.
This involves signing a “Firearms Unloaded” declaration, locking the firearm(s) in a hard-sided, crush-proof container
and retaining the key or combination.

Further, you must retain entry permits; ensure ammunition is transported in the manufacturer’s original packaging;
or securely packed in plastic, wood, or metal boxes.
Ammunition weighing in excess of 11 pounds or containing incendiary projectiles is prohibited.

HAND GUNS ARE ILLEGAL

It is illegal to carry or hunt with a handgun in Canada; therefore it is also against the law to bring handguns into Canada.

HUNTING ELIGIBILITY IN ALBERTA

Anyone with a hunting license suspension in Alberta or elsewhere may be prohibited from applying for,
or obtaining, a recreational hunting license in Alberta.

Prior to obtaining a license you must first obtain a WIN card available at www.relm.com.

For further information, contact Alberta Fish & Wildlife – Enforcement- Field Services 780-427-4943.

MEAT PROCESSING

You are responsible for the meat processing costs, from your animal, regardless of whether you take your meat home or not.

The cost is approximately $ .75 per pound.

Depending on the amount of luggage you have, there may be an extra fee for additional piece(s) charged by the Airline carrier.
You may wish to donate your meat to someone in need or to the Hunters Who Care Foodbank Program.
